What is a Data Center?
A data center is a large building that holds computers, storage systems, and networking equipment. These computers store and process digital information — including photos, videos, emails, websites, and AI tasks.
You can think of it as a physical home for the internet.
How do they work?
Data centers need three main things to run:
Servers run constantly — they don't turn off. A single data center can use as much electricity as thousands of homes.
Electricity
Cooling systems use water to absorb heat from the servers. Without cooling, the equipment would overheat and fail.
Water
Data centers are large buildings. They also need space for power equipment, cooling towers, and sometimes backup generators.
